Volunteers needed to collect data on the composition of trash and recyclables generated on campus.
MIT, it’s time to get your hands dirty. (Well, not really – gloves and Tyvek jumpsuits will be provided.)
Tata Center alumna Rachel Perlman is hosting an MIT Waste Audit on June 30th, and needs volunteers to help sort and weigh garbage at the Stata Center (not to be confused with the Tata Center) on campus.
The purpose of this audit is to gather information that will be used in a materials flow analysis for the entire campus – a step toward optimizing MIT’s waste management practices. Currently, the only data that exists for MIT is the total tonnage of mixed waste and mixed recyclables. This study will generate much higher resolution data.
Snacks and cool drinks will be available!
If you’d like to be a part of helping MIT and other institutions increase their materials efficiency and better manage their waste, please RSVP at this link.
(The sorting will take place outside, so hat and sunscreen are recommended.)
