An integrated tool to alleviate information gaps constraining crop yields.
Bridging yield gaps – the gap between current farm yield (FY), attainable yield (AY), and potential yield (PY) – is critical to addressing global food, feed, and fuel security. Yield gap in the range of 25-200% exist worldwide, with 45-110% gaps recorded in fertile zones of India. They exist because of constraints like farmer skills, attitude and information; technology; infrastructure; institutions; inputs; and knowledge of advances.
We propose a Yield Gap Tool designed to raise farmer/extension awareness of their persistent yield gap and ability to reduce it, integrating current information and institutions, as guided by comprehensive field experiments at ICRISAT, India.
