Marc Barbar

Marc Barbar received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 2017. He is currently an SM and Ph.D. student in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at MIT. He is working on distribution network design for areas experiencing frequent natural disasters that cause severe damage to the electrical network.

The current area of focus is on designing reinforced microgrid networks to meet critical demand enabling the affected areas to maintain a minimum standard of service under specific reliability and resiliency criteria. Such restructuring of the grid must take into account grid connection and stand-alone possibilities through normal and abnormal conditions. Marc’s main research interests include power system analysis, transmission expansion, generation optimization, upstream network reinforcement, and resiliency planning.
